Day 5 Monday August 14th, 2000
We are up early today at 6:30 a.m. for quiet time. By 7 a.m. it 85 degrees! The missionaries spread out across the huge rocks that spatter the landscape. They begin to seek God for the day. He will be glorified at the orphanage through them. We come together. Part of the team waits for our contact people to pick us up for Pastor Tencho's work party at his house. David, and Jerry and Bobbe show up from Northwest Outreach Ministries. We discuss our plans for the day and then venture to the worksite to drop off the guys that will be working on Pastor Tencho's home. I am looking forward to getting to the orphanage in TJ. God has put Carmen and Jorge, the owners of the orphanage, on my heart and I want to see them again. We travel down the Tecate toll road and make our way to TJ.

We get to the orphanage and Allison and I meet Carmen. There is another work party at the orphanage today, they are from Iowa. Carmen takes us on a quick tour of the new orphanage we go upstairs and pass cribs with little children in them. My heart starts to break. We look at the rooms of the children. They help 53 kids right now. As we tour the place Carmen shares her vision for the ministry. I am blessed. Allison and I look at each other and I start to cry. This is not a movie, this is not made up, this is REAL. I tell Carmen we are here to serve, she is gracious and remembers me from last year. Our team prayed and prophesied over her and her husband. She is thrilled as she tells me everything that we prayed last year has come to pass. I am encouraged and we go to get the other team members.

Many of the kids are dressed like clowns, they make balloon animals for the kids and the rest volunteer to wash clothes, clean rooms or children! We get to do all of that and more. We spend 4 hours helping the kids. It is 105 degrees in the sun. Way too hot! The clothes are being washed on a washboard, the children crowd around our interpreter, he loves children. Carmen asks if we can bath the children so part of our team does so. It is a pretty intense time, they are very dirty and the shower facility is very primitive. Emily is so hilarious, one of the kids go to the bathroom on her! She is grossing out, but Allison Furubotten comes to her rescue by hosing him off! Matt Leamer gets some pretty intense looks from Emily when he runs for his camera. Sara Norton is in love with the kids she still wants take them home. Heidi Damasiewicz is VERY touched by the experience. She talks to the team about it. God teaches us all much from this visit. Before we leave we pray for the new school and for Carmen and Jorge. It is an amazing time of ministry, we end up praying for the children and other staff members at the orphanage. We stayed an extra hour!

When we arrive back at Pastor Tenchos church we set camp back up and begin to help Carmen with dinner. The work party from Pastor Tencho's home arrives and we discuss how the project is going. It looks as if tomorrow we will need to work all day in three different ministry sites. So we plan our agenda and eat dinner. This is the best macaroni and cheese I have ever eaten…. Of course we are really hungry! The kids get together for a worship service in the sanctuary, many of them are prayed for and we enjoy the worship together. That night I introduce SHADOW theatre. We all laugh at the corny jokes and then go to bed. It is so hot.
